30 Days to Develop

You're a solo indie developer with 30 days until launch.
AI could do the work for you. Should it?

30 Days To Develop is a short browser game about choices game developers face now that generative AI can produce art, write stories, produce music, and code in seconds.

How to play

  1. Pick a task. Select one of the 12 tasks. The yellow bars show how important each task is.
  2. Choose how much AI to use. 0% means no AI, 100% means fully AI.
  3. Choose how many days you want to spend on that task. You only have 30 days so spend them wisely.
  4. Balance Content and Originality. Keep them in balance: the closer they are, the better your score.

Launch Day

When time runs out, the store page asks you one last question. You can launch early, but for the best result, use all 30 days and finish every task.

"Does this game use AI-generated content?"

Disclose it honestly, or leave it blank and hopefully nobody notices. The reviews will come in. A 'Critic' score, reviews of certain tasks, and credits showing who (or what) really made your game.

What it's about

There's no single answer. This game was created to create discussion around AI use and asks you to consider your choices around AI disclosure.

Did you disclose? Leave a comment with your Critic score and the choice you made on launch day. I'd love to hear why you chose it.

Credits

  • Design and development: Auryn Denovan-Stroud, as an interactive research artefact at Media Design School
  • Human made assets: CraftPix.net free packs (nature backgrounds, swamp tileset, shinobi sprites, RPG UI, jungle cartoon UI)

AI Disclosure

In the spirit of the game: 100% of the "AI" versions of the in-game art were made with ChatGPT, and parts of the .html and .css code were supported with AI assistance (Claude).
